Last night we were informed Thich Nhat Hanh is in Massachusetts General hospital with Pneumonia. He is eighty three years old, and still teaching the Dharma to his beloved Sangha. I met Thay almost two years ago to the day on August 18th 2007, and I will never forget being in his presence. He is a beloved teacher, and we wish him a quick recovery. Here is a hand written letter from Thay to his Sangha:
UPDATE: Thay’s treatment has gone well, and he has now been discharged from the hospital and will be continuing treatment as an outpatient, which is very good news. He is 83 and was unable to go to the Colorado Retreat but will rejoin the tour in California after his treatment ends.

Thank you for sharing this touching note and news! Long life Thich Nhat Hahn! You are a living treasure!
Couldn’t be more beautiful or moving than that…
My practice will be with and for you, my smiles will be with and for you, and my breath will be with and for you.
the loving sangha in Mexico City is with you dearest teacher, in every breath we take, in every step we make, we smile to you with the loving smile you taught us to enjoy, we feel the togetherness with you and all the people that love you and indeed you live in all of us. Take care.
Dearest Thay I met you through your books and I fell in love with your teaching. Later I found a Sangha in my town.I never met you personally but I feel as I did. Now I smile to your infection and especially to your doctors wishing you a healthy staying in hospital and a prompt recovery.
Reverend Dharma Teacher Thich Naht Hahn
You have been an example of coherence and pure teachings to all of us.
Here in Brazil we are deeply grateful for your life and your books.
I am a Zen monastic born in Brazil, ordained by Maezumi Roshi, at ZCLA, where I did meet you when you asked him for a Japanese bell. More than twenty years ago.
Then, I went to Japan and completed my formal studies with Aoyama Shundo Docho Roshi. My transmission teacher is Yogo Suigan Roshi.
And I do follow and learn from your books and experiences in teaching the Buddha Dharma.
May your life be long and your disciples throughout the Earth be able to continue to live and practice as you are showing all of us.
Deep respect and my prayers for your health.
